Top 5 Restaurants for Dinner in Les Deux Alpes, France

After the sunset and an awesome day on the slopes of Les Deux Alpes, it is time to find an equally amazing restaurant to fill the stomachs with the best the French has to offer.

Below is our choice of Top 5 Restaurants for dinner at Les Deux Alpes, France.

5. L’Alisier

If you are craving seafood, L’Alisier is the place to go to. This spacious and bright restaurant is tucked away from the main street in Venosc (closest ski lift is Diablo). The menu has a wide selection of seafood, as well as raclette and cheese fondue. We had a dozen of fresh oysters to kick off the evening and quickly ordered another as they were fresh and juicy. The food is generally well cooked and artfully presented. The service is prompt but the restaurant do get quite busy. There is a 3 course set menu for €29 if you can’t decide. It just slightly lacks atmosphere and a touch transactional for me.

4. Casa Nostra

You won’t miss this small, classy restaurant as it is on the main street next to the popular Polar Bear Pub. Casa Nostra takes the prize of the most beautifully presented dishes this side of the French Alpes. The dining room has exposed wood beams, random stone tiles and decorated with modern art paintings. The menu is modern European with some Asian influences. Service is prompt, but it does get short-handed at peak times. The quality of the food is not consistent across all the dishes. Most of the dishes were good, the spring rolls were to die-for but the ravioli was bland and the duck was slightly overcooked. There is also a great tapas bar at the front of the restaurant.

3. Le Cellier

An open wood-fire grill provides Le Cellier with warmth as well as delicious steaks. It has the most juicy and flavoursome steaks in Les Deux Alpes. It is cooked on the wood-fire grill and it does magic to it. This restaurant has all the local specialties of raclettes, fondues, boîte chaude, tartiflettes, steaks and duck. The service is prompt and the staff are friendly. Make sure you try the Black Ginger cocktail – rum in ginger ale topped with fresh lime and a dash of sugar.

2. Le Trappeur

On the main street, close to Jandri Express 1 ski lift, is the friendly, warm and fun Le Trappeur. Sophie and her teddy bears instantly made us feel welcomed. The restaurant is what you imagined an explorer’s cabin to be. It has calm low-lights and the wood-panelled walls are decorated with funky items like a wild boar head with sunglasses, a wooden sleigh, a pair of boots and a rucksack. The menu has all the French food you expect on the French Alpes – raclette, fondue, tartiflette, boîte chaude, escargot, steaks, duck and salad. The Tartiflette Reblochon stole the limelight and the fries that came with the juicy entrecôte were addictive.

1. Le Rustique

Léo and Leia (and the classic heavy metal songs in the background) put Le Rustique at the pinnacle of my Top 5 Restaurants in Les Deux Alpes list. This restaurant is located on the main street between Jandri Express 1 and Belle Etoile ski lift. It has the best fondue with mushroom in the entire valley. It is rich and flavoursome and we just can’t have enough of it. The serious-looking cast iron charcoal burner offered loads of fun to barbeque your own steaks and chicken fillets. We learnt that this is called braserade or table grilling. The night, of course, closed with a round of Genepi led by Leo into the kitchen for a toast to the folks that made it all possible. Awesome cosy and friendly place for great food and amazing atmosphere.

Travel Tips:

  1. Please do remember to book in advance for these restaurants, especially for dinner. They sell out quickly like hot cakes. Unfortunately, none of them are on any online reservation booking systems. It will have to be email, Facebook Messenger or the good old-fashion phone call.
  2. English is widely spoken in all the restaurants and most menu has English translations.
  3. Most restaurants in Les Deux Alpes do not charge an additional service charge or tax. So, the price you see on the menu is the price you pay.
  4. The busier restaurants will normally run two seatings in the evening, 7pm or 9pm. Shops closes at 7.30pm or 8pm.
  5. All the restaurants and shops that I went to takes credit card, no real need for any cash.
  6. Do not refuse shots of Genepi (local herbal liqueur) – it is rude to do so *wink*.
