There is a restaurant on each of the three stops on the Grindelwald-First gondola cable car line, and as the saying goes, save the best for last at 2,139m above sea level. The simple but fabulous lunch grub offered by Skihütte Genepi are delicious. The fun-loving crew will ensure you are fed well and have an enjoyable time while you are here. With music playing and the panoramic view of the mountains in front of you, you know you have made the right choice for lunch or après-ski.
What is the food like?
Fabulous lunch grub. The best we had in Grindelwald. With a simple lunch menu consisting only of a soup, two salads, two burgers, two wraps, two pizzas, a doner kebab and fries, the crew at Genepi is able to focus on the task of making them fabulous. The Genepi Burger looks like those you see in an advertisement and it is delicious. It is a full-throttle indulgence with generous portion of bacon, melted cheddar cheese on top of a chunky piece of beef patty. The chicken wrap and the flammkuchen were equally mind-blowing.
How is the drinks selection?
Sufficient. There is something for every occasion. Whether it is an espresso or some sugary soft drink or energy shot to recharge from the slopes or a kaffee fertig (coffee with schnapps), a beer, a glass of red wine or Prosecco to make the day merrier, they are all on the menu.
What is the place like?
Cool lively. Fantastic music sets the vibe in this little mountain hut situated at the final stop of the Grindelwald-First gondola cable car line. It is party as usual here with skiers, snowboarders or hikers chilling and relaxing while soaking in the panoramic view of the mountains. There is an indoor dining room with four tables for fours, a separate bar with high-stool tables, outdoor table benches as well as a couple of chill-out snugs. Look no further for an afternoon lunch break or après-ski drinks.
Who are the patrons?
Active holiday-makers with a love for music and simple delicious grub.
How was the service?
Friendly & funny. The crew is a fun-loving bunch. There are regular banters between them and sometimes with the punters too. But efficient service is still very much delivered. Food arrives freshly made and with a big smile.
Is it child friendly?
Yes. If they can get up to this point in the mountain, they have earned the right to be served.
Is it dog friendly?
Yes. The mountains are great for hiking with the dog in the summer.
Best it gets in Grindelwald. The restaurant do not charge any service charge, it is purely at your discretion into the service jar.

Thin pita bread-like pizza with bacon, sour cream and onions. Fresh from the over, almost crispy. Another simple but effective dish. Savoury bacons with sweet onions and light sour cream. CHF15.50
